Performance and pricing-performance ratio – these are the priorities of the annual report “Top 10 Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2016” by American analysts Cloud Spectator. In this survey, our 1&1 Cloud Server competed with similar products of cloud service vendors like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute, Rackspace or IBM SoftLayer. It evaluated the relative performance of virtual machines (VMs). In detail, the benchmark focused on the server components processor (vCPU), memory and disk storage. It proves a first-class performance and an unprecedented pricing-performance value of the 1&1 Cloud Server.
A closer look at the results
Cloud Spectator tested the VMs of the analyzed vendors in four different sizes ranging from 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB Disk to 16 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB. Three VMs were operated per unit, meaning that a total of 12 VMs ran for a period of 24 hours. During this time pings were continuously sent to the servers for data collection. The Cloud Spectator team recorded performance data of virtual processors, memory and storage. The result: 1&1 fully convinced the analysts in terms of pricing-performance ratio (Cloud Spectator refers to this as “Cloud Specs Score” in their benchmark). Especially in regards to the CPU and memory performance, 1&1’s results exceeded those of competitor solutions by far.
Moreover, 1&1 features an unbeatable pricing-performance ratio combining highest performance with attractive pricing packages. In summary, the 1&1 Cloud Server’s Cloud Specs Score is over four times as high as those of market leaders such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. In addition, 1&1 stands out regarding no additional costs for support and traffic – some vendors calculate traffic costs when clients reach a specific volume of data. These extra costs are an aspect enterprises should be aware of when they are looking for a fitting cloud server solution for their IT infrastructure.
“Comparing different vendors pays off as the products can vary greatly and thus, enterprises can save or spend additional expenses. In terms of price-performance value, 1&1 scores higher than the big players with its Cloud Server product”, says Danny Gee, Senior Analyst at Cloud Spectator. “The top ranking in the Top 10 Cloud Vendor Benchmark 2016 strengthens 1&1’s position in the cloud market.”
